Royal Pleco Question

I was wondering if the stripes on royal plecos only run from head to tail? I picked up what the lfs had listed as a royal. However it doesn't look like pictures I've seen. Its' stripes run accross it and on its' fins with a more reticulated pattern around its' head. A little bit of picture browsing and it looks like a panaque changae. Is this fish comprable in price to a royal? It looks cool, but i'd like to be sure I didn't get ripped off.

You can not confuse a royal with a changae, they very different geometry apart from the stripes.. Need pics though..
 
Cool, I figured pics would be needed, but I didn't have my camera handy last night and I need a few more posts to be able to post pics I believe. On the way home from work and will have pics up shortly.

Pretty certain he isn't a royal, but not too sure what he is though. I'm going to try to get a pic of his underside as well, but he likes to hide. And there is a columbian zebra behind him in some of the pics, sorry. And that rainbow "shark" is such a photo whore :D
 
Yeah, I thought it wasn't a royal, but I wasn't paying attention at the store. The sign next to the tank said small royal pleco and there definitely was one in there a week ago. But yesterday when I went to the store to get him he was hiding and all I could see was the tail and assumed it was the same royal. I told the guy at the store to grab him for me and went and looked at a few other things and picked up some frozen food. When I came back to the counter he had this little guy in the bag. I told the guy it didn't look like a royal, but he said that is what it was labeled as and he'd already started to ring it up. So I figured why not, cool looking pleco either way. But my main concern is that the price was for a small royal which is not what I got. But I'm not sure if this pleco would be similarily priced to a royal, or if it should have been a cheaper price since it is something else.

Looks like what you thought it was. Not sure what they're worth where you are. Definatley not the price of a small royal. I would take it back. The guy at the store is an ***hole.
