Would the combination of a 8-9" royal pleco and a baby hysterix ray be a bad idea? I know plecos can often suck the slime coating off of rays, but the royal doesn't seem interested in anything except zuchini and his hiding spots, so i am thinking of adding the ray... any thoughts?

You could try it. Do you have a tank to relocate either the teacup or royal to incase something goes wrong?

not really. the only other tanks i have (currently running) are a 55 planted and a 10 gal planted..

That pleco would be fine in the 55. jmo Gl bro!

Not true. A 10" royal in a 55 gallon planted would destroy the tank with poop and most likely, uproot all of the plants.

As i said JMO! Pleco's need very little room. If the filteration is good no worries. But if it's filled with plants then he will uproot some of your plants.

yeah thats what im worried about, uprooted plants. Does anyone have any expirence keeping royal plecos with small rays? I think im just gonna bite the bullet and give it a shot.

Royals are gentle and passive with other fish IMO. My 2 Royals have never bothered a single soul. Each was in with my Discus for awhile at different times. I love Royals and that's one of the reasons-they don't bother other fish. My 2 are together now in a tank with Angelfish, an African Knifefish, tiny Cory Cats & female Bettas.
I've never owned a Ray but I'd go so far as to say I'd be shocked if a Royal bothered him no matter what the size.

thanks alot twisted. I agree my royal doesnt mess with anyone unless you get in his face. I think im gonna go for it. I'll let everyone know how it goes.
