If i can remember correctly you have a small tank atm. And well as you know your pbass are quite the poop machines and messy eaters and you probably have to do frequent water changes from the poop in such a small tank. Well a royal pleco is a bigger pooper and take the bioload from 2 pbass and times by atleast 4 for the one little guy of 2-3" so you with your pbass will probably have to do daily water changes. I know this from experience. I had to two baby pbass in a 10g qt for a little bit and HAD there was no ill do it tomorrow every 3 days. Now i hvae just a royal pleco in that same tank I have to do a w/c every two days and its still 3 times worse than after 3 days of pbass. ( i really should be doing daily but it is what it is after one night its worse then pbass.) Just wanted to share about them poopers and couldn't imagine pbass and a royal in a small tank so much poop. and deppending what kind of royal as there is 3 kinds i believe may be expensive. I got a L191 at 2-3" $25 , i have seen L190 4" at $40 and i've seen another royal not sure which one at 2" for $56. Yes they need driftwood and veggies.
