Im thinking about gettinbg some sort of royal pleco but I dont know what kind. To me they all kinda look alike. Are any of them easier to care for? About how much growth will I see if I purchase a smaller one?

I also hear they grow slow....I just got a l190 and its sweet! Real contrast to my l368s

They grow really slowly, my favorites are the L330 (Watermelon Pleco).

About how many inches a year will they grow?

My L190 has grown from 2" to 6" in 4 years. And that was with tons of veggies, tons of wood, and way oversized and understocked tanks with perfect water conditions. If you are wanting fast growth look into other species than panaques. But as the royals grow they turn into amazing fish, im loving every painfully slow inch of growth!!!

I've found that L191 are the commonest (often wrongly labelled as L027) and then Panaque nigrolineatus/L190/L330 second. Panaque titan/L418 are available seasonally but fetch higher prices, and you won't find any Panaque armbrusteri/L027's that are easy to come by.

Their growth rate is slow, 1"/2.5cm a year is often quoted. I've found it quite variable amongst mine, between 0.8-2.8"/2-7cm a year, across a spectrum of 3"-16"/8-40cm fish. I think much faster is achievable given better conditions.

I've grown out 6 from 3" to 7" in 2 years (L190, L191 & L330). Above 8" only 1" a year. Above 12" maybe 1/2" a year.
