My Royal (not sure what type royal) when I go upstairs late at night and turn on the light in my 75 my Royal's body is very white looking. Almost like he has no pigment in his body...

Then in the morning and for the majority of the time I see him his color looks great and he is extremely active.

Any ideas what that would be?

Here are some pics during the day, I'll try and submit some late at night when he is all white...

I've noticed that most of my fish tend to fade out when the lights are off. It's most noticeable on my Pleco's (Peppermint, Leopard Frog, Queen Arabesque), but my SAE's betta's and gourami do it too.

Lovely little royal. Would be interesting to see to what extent it does it, but most fish appear to have a lack of pigment after being kept in the dark for a period.

for my pleco its the other way around. i have white sand bottom and my pleco is relaly pale when lights are on and turns really dark when the lights are off

That is interesting and must been common among most fish. I wonder if that is some sort of a defense mechanism while sleeping...?

Also very interesting that vmprld pleco does the exact opposite.

Thanks for the responses....

Oh, Davo I'll see if I can take picture when he is all white...

Beautiful fish you have there my fish has a similar behaviour, mine does not go white though it just gets alot lighter.
I believe you have a L190

Cool, just wondering to what extent it does it. Most of my plecs fade a lot, or loose their pattern completely, but I also rarely have tank lights on, so when they do go on, it is extra bright for them. People used to (and prob still do) raise fish in the dark and claim it was a morph colour as a kind of scam.
