i have heard that Royal Plecos can get territorial...is this true. i have one aobut 4" but recently my fish store has recieved some larger ones...7-9" i want to get one but i dont want fights.

Yes, they are territorial. I couldn't keep my 19" with my 35" panaque in a 650gal. However, I have been able to keep several 6 to 10 inchers together by providing them each their own piece of driftwood with a terrecotta cave under or alongside each driftwood piece. There's still some squabbling but no injuries in the 220gal.

where do yall put these huge tanks!?!?!? so two 7" and under in a 55 ok?

I have a 7500+ sq/ft hatchery/fish building. If you're going to combine a territorial species, it's better to go with 3 or more. That way the alpha (most aggressive) specimen has to spread his aggression around instead of always focusing on one poor individual. That's why I went with 4.

BTW, sorry I forgot...Welcome to MFK!!!

are you in the business? or are you just freakishly addicted.

I guess I'm addicted since I'm Jonesin' for another tank. I just started getting the materials together for building another tank (10ft x 3ft tank).

I'm not back in business yet. I'm still putting the new hatchery together for starting my business back up. I raise Australian crays for the food market. But, I want to expand the food market numbers and have live tank specimens available along with frozen cray larvae and juvies for monster-keepers.

OOPS!!!...just realized what I did. Sorry for the derail.

no worries........your my hero now!

:iagree: with oddball. Plecos are very territorial, especially the royals. He's right... two royals usually end up in one stressed royal with thorny fins and scratches around the body and one DEAD royal. Better go with at least three. God luck with your Panaques.

Best regards.

Daniel.
