I was planning to sell two of my six RBP as they grew into their 80 gallon tank. The MFK classifieds were not interested though and over the past two weeks the fish cut the numbers for me. I found each fish floating still alive ( one week apart), chewed down caudally just about up to the beginning of the body cavity and internal organs. Two observationes: No other fish was significantly injured at the time of the attack. and the fish that were killed were not the two smallest. The fact that no other fish was injured is surprising because it seems like there was a fish mutiny with a chosen target each time. Neither of the dead fish was visibily sick or weakened beforehand. The first territorial conflict, for example, before i moved them to an 80, left multiple fish with large wounds. Just wanted to to share this story and see if anyone has seen the same thing? Also, I have been feeding my fish large cichlid pellets and raw duck/goose meat(i am a waterfowl hunter). The fish seem healthy. I hope i can keep the four in the 80 without more attacks.

When i lost one about a month ago my largest was the one that was taken out and I did not notice any scraps, cuts, bites or anything on the other 7. There were no signs of anything different the days leading up into it and I actually had feed them twice that day. I feed them on my lunch break at 3 and he was half eaten, oragns missing also by 6 when i came home.

Hmmmm

I've been worried about this happening in my tank, I just added my 3 smaller RBP's to my larger one. At first I was worried about his reaction but he was fine with it but claimed his territory first :)

Now I'm worried about the smaller ones killing the big one off before I can get my 180g cycled :(

I was shocked that it was my biggest one that had been taken out. I kept doing double takes and checking their sizes. Funny thing is when i first got them at the size of a nickel, i thought about getting rid of him because of is significant size difference......8 months later they took care of it for me
