What color gravel brings out the best colors in your ruby reds? I have mine on black and she is rather dull.

I always use black as well. Ive seen some with tan sand and it worked well!

I used a river rock that has a lot of natural red hues in it, along with a black background and my guys colors POP.. Especially the gold on him.. It seems to almost cover his entire body now. Lighting might also have something to do with it. I'm using a 50/50 compact florescent fixture.. I wanted to go with black sand as well, but my friends talked me out of it.

in my opinion the darker the substrate the more vibrant the color. just my opinion though..

I have white playsand, and my Red belly has decent color. 99% of it will be diet and housing conditions, healthy/happy fish = color. Besides the sand I currently have, I've kept rbp on blue gravel, pool filter sand, and hot pink gravel; the pink gave me the best color out of one particular fish, at the time he was 3" or so... But yea, best bet for best color? Good diet, clean water.
