So I am moving my ruby red once again. Any suggestions on tank setup to highlight its colors? I bought the fish three years ago and it had awesome color. Once I let it out of the bag I never really saw too much more then silver. It is now doubled the size at six to seven inches, so I know a lot of color fades, but what is the best set up? Dark/light/planted etc.
The fish was first in a tank with black gravel, then natural, and now bare bottom.

I find a black background on a tank with a light colored sand substrate always shows the best colors in fish. Make sure your lighting is adequate for the new tank. Keep us update on the ruby!

Have any pics? I have mine on natural gravel and the yellow on the belly seems bright so natural sand should help. Mine is smaller though. Any red still on yours?

Try to mock its natural habitat!

Try a low tech planted tank with driftwood and tan pfs sand with a little river pebble. Youd be amazed when you put together a slice of the Amazon and your fish is actually happier or at least seems so!

Maybe something simple like this:

The only time imo when decor should be hindered is when room is a must or necessity!

I am toying with the idea of doing a low tech planted tank, the only problem is I kind of don't care for my high tech planted tank. I done with pfs. It is ruining my filters.

It must not be real pool filter sand or it may have not been rinsed thoroughly. I pour it in a 5gal bucket and put a hose in the bottom, rinse it for 30min or more and every 5-10min stir it with your hand. That way all the small particles will drain out. Never had an issue with pfs.

Its real pool filter sand and it was rinsed very well. I keep my intakes very low to the substrate, which complicates things.

I am most likely going to move this guy into a 55g with an AC 110. Do these guys like current? Should I add a power head? Thanks
