What tank size would I need to keep a RT and GT together? Thinking would have to have some dithers (Giant Danio) in with em.

i would say about 125-150.... and when you say rt are you talking about mayans or festae???

Sorry for bumping my own thread.

But any suggestions on more colorful dithers? I have used giant danios in the past because of their size and where they prefer to be in the tank (top) but going to be using black moon sand to make the colors of the GT/RT pop so was thinking if I could find some more colorful dithers that would be awesome.

Also, would it be possible to add one odd ball type fish? What I'm not entirely sure so open to suggestions. Have always wanted a 'Terror' tank so that's what I'm setting up.

I tried that combo in a 265g. It worked for a few months and then my female Festae took a disliking to my male Green Terror and nearly killed him. Luckily I was home to catch it in time and separated them. (or did you mean Green Texas by GT?)

Green Terror (Aequidens' sp. "Goldsaum)/Red Terror (Amphilophus festae)

Sorry been out of the hobby for a few months and forgetting details like this. What other fish did you have in the 265g?

At that time I had a male and female Festae, male and female orange saum, a big bocourtii, 6 spotted silver dollars, 6 tinfoil barbs and a couple of striped raphaels.

I have a male GT and female RT (festae) in a 125 with other cichlids and they do fine. I also have a male Texas cichlid in there that has paired up with the festae and runs the tank. Aggression isn't that bad (minor chasing) and they've been together as adults for a couple of years now. Aggression is going to depend on the individual fish.

As for dithers, rainbows are another option, but go with the cheep ones to start out in case they don't work. I've learned that lesson the hard way. Rainbows are not very hardy compared to cichlids. Giant danioes aren't a bad option though.
