I just wanted to show you my Red Texas and FH's. I recently went to Texasfever's house to pick up a few things and I checked out his fry that he got from me. I was amazed at their progress and the pearls...oh man!!!!

See the the thing is, I have told many of you that I have only been in the hobby for a little while, like 15 months....so I still got a lot of learning to do!!!
While I have sold many fry to customers with great fading results, I have yet to have one fade!!!!!!! Well come to find out....I was given advice to change my backgrounds to black.....Great for my Female RT and her Stud Thailand GT, but bad for fry!!!! Well not bad from a health standpoint, but at a young age they adapt to surroundings.

Well I started changing my tank backgrounds and WOW...what a change!!!

The first video is with the new background and second is what the black background and gravel setting was doing......Needless to say...I prefer the red or Blue backgrounds for the fry!!!

Let me know what ya think!!!

Nice setup CJ! That male is a monster i wish mine didn't get killed. :( I like how the RT's looks with the red background and lighter sub, but mine have black on black and they are still coming along great! Like i said in your other thread a few of em are turning red already too.

When are you going to have some more RT's up for sale? I think me and my friend might go in on another batch, and i would like to get some early to snag all the stunners!!hahaha

anyway good to see all your fish and projects are doing well GL

Still do!!!! Just don't have a FS thread on them... Maybe I should get one going again. I have had more sales form these threads that the FS thread.

At least here we can discuss everything and then if ya want them....I got 'em!!

Just one batch currently and the future wigglers in the tank with mom and dad. I really need to pull her out of the tank after this batch gets going to give her a break. This is technically batch #5. 3 was eaten ....I just moved and they spawned immediately after I filled their tank. Batch 4 was really wierd, not many survived, but some still remain in the tank, cuz they never grew and mom and dad are picking them off day by day. I really think they just rejected the batch and that was it for them....no hope gonners....look like 10 day old fry....never grew.

Now on to batch 5....was not planning this one at all. She was persistent though and laid the eggs on the glass on the side of the tank. Maybe 20 eggs out of the whole batch turned white and the rest were fertilized.

Well, that's it in a nutshell!! Oh yeah, the remainder of the fry were not all sold...only 50. SO I still have a crapload left out of batch 2 which is the batch I am currently selling but don't a FS thread for any more.

A classic example of how a darker background/substrate can sometimes trigger a morphological change within the chromatophore cells of a fish.

Having said that, as RT's mature a darker background & substrate can make both the red & pearling pop in the fish.

Very much agree. I doubt the tank color effects how they will fade, but it certainly makes it more visable. Tank colors really do effect the pigments in the chromatophore cells. Of course red BG and light sub will make them "look" more faded. Once they do fade I think a blue backround would really make colors pop. Blue backround with pink/red contrast on fish really makes my pink fene pop.
Im really curious as to how that big guy in the first video will turn out. Keep the updates coming bro
