So at what size do Red Terrors get earn their name? I've got two in a small growout tank with a RTM. Obviously they will need a bigger tank eventually here seeing as their only 2 inches atm. And the RTM is 3. But my question is, will they need to be separated at some point? They are complety fine atm, the RTM is the king of the tank for sure. I belive its a male and female RT and a female RTM. (These are purely guesses at this size. ) has anyone had any luck keeping these two together? The grow out tank is 46g, I'm getting rid of my 90 and getting a 125. I plan on putting them in that untill they out grow it. I know that the RT's will eventually need closer to a 180+ and I fully plan of getting one. Just need time.

Although I haven't had a chance to raise a Red Terror I have read and heard that they reach their aggressive sides around 4 to 5 inches. But it can always vary from fish to fish.

So I have a few small ones, no real aggression. I couldn't wait for them to grow and bought a 8-9" male who is only mildly aggressive.

it is different for every festae. It depends on a lot of factors. If these two are in fact a male and female and are compatible and end up pairing off then it could happen a lot faster. If you are looking to get a pair I would get some more festae growouts and move the RTM.

A.) I'm jealous cuz I don't have RTs or RTMs
B.) I'd want a pair of RTMs if I already had a pair of RTs
C.) If they shared a tank it would keep the RTs from ganging up on a lone RTM.
D.) RTs ultimately grow bigger, I think.
E.) I'm not sure on size but I'm figuring a tank big enough for 40-46" of fish

my pair of festae certainly live up to their name, so i cannot recommend them being with any tankmates other than possibly dithers.

The reason I belive its male and female RT is I bought them both at about the same size from a cichlid farm here in Florida. And now one of them has easily doubled in size. While the other has only grown alittle. I've heard that the males grow significantly faster then the females.

My red terror male was about 8" when I sold him and was never aggressive until I added a 6" flowerhorn which he almost killed while I was at work.. before that he was the lowest ranking fish in the tank beneath my female jaguar, mayan and large 12" synspilum and would stay out of everyone's way.
