I plan on getting a baby red tail next week and am planning on building my own enclosure I have two quick questions. I plan on using 3/4 plywood, what is the best way to seal the inside of the enclosure drylock? water based poly? I'm kind of at a loss with the sealer. second question is what size should I build with the snake just being a couple of months old. can i build it an enclosure to last it his/her whole life or would the snake be better off with a smaller enclosure for a year or so?

No need to build an enclosure for one thats only a few months old. I got mine last month and I keep him in a 10g and he's fine. Just put things in that he can climb on. And post pics when you get it =]

at the moment I have a 10 and 40 breeder available to use but how do you keep your humidity up? Do you just mist a couple times a day?

I'm really considering a hypo carmle that is at a local shop, looks awesome but a little leary because I've never seen a hypo carmle besides this one and google doesn't show any results do you have pictures of your whole setup?

I would keep it in a smaller vivarium or RUB for the moment as ive found they can become stressed in larger environments, plus it will be easier to keep an eye on her and for maintenance aswell. You shouldnt need to spray your boa, having a large water bowl should provide enough humidity, i didnt spray mine at all not even at shedding time and i found that a large water and bathing bowl was enough to create a high enough humidity level.
