i have a RTC and he about 5-6inch i got him about 2-3 weeks ago and he was about 3-4inch. he growing really fast healthy and active he even swim around the tank when the lights are on, during the day time and specially when it's feeding time. he have no problem taking food from my hand. i also have a few other fish in there and a jardini. my jardini got a little scratch and a little rip fin maybe from a fight with other fish. i added a little aquarium salt in there about close to 1 tea spoon. i don't want to add a lot because im not sure about my catfish. i don't want to take my other fishes out because a 2 of the other fish and my jardini have a rip fins so i want to heal all of them and i dont have room of each of them when i take them out. my tank is a little longer than 6ft length and 2ft width but im going to say 6x2x2 so about 120 gallons. will my catfish be fine with the aquarium salt?

If I read this correctly you put 1 teaspoon of salt in 180 gallons of water?

That's not enough to either help or hurt. Just use clean water they'll heal up in no time.

i was scared if i added too much because after i added the salt i did a little research and i found out that depend on the fish even a little salt in the tank can harm it. but im not sure if a tea spoon would do anything. i was afraid to add more, any advice would help. thank you

It's fair enough the concerns about salt, I was reading the recommendations in the disease forum for ich recently; that suggested 2 tablespoons per gallon of water to treat ich, which totally took me aback lol.

As stated above, clean, well aerated water and no stress are all that's needed for minor injuries to heal. Depending on the length of a rip, a ripped fin is a micro-injury. Usually just watching that there is no inflammation is enough.

RTC can handle 2-3 TEAspoons of salt per gallon, a short-term medication dose, just fine. Please read this for more authoritative info on salt uses http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/salt-and-its-uses.226328/
