soo ive been reading some of the posts on Rtcs tsn and such i cant believe what i read some times like a 16'' rtc in a 55 gallon or a 14'' tsn in a 30 gallon so i have came up with an idea for all those people that buy the monster cats and cant keep them i dont care if you have a 180 gal its too small for rtcs read the sticky at the top of the catfish page. anyways back to the idea that me and a friend have started to help people out by taking there rtcs and tsn and other monster cats to my house where i can keep them in one of my many ponds 1000gal to 10000 gal or even little babys being 5''-8'' in the 180 gal tanks till bigger and my question too all monster fish keepers do you think this is a good idea to try and help monster cats because of peoples stupidity the bad part is i can really only help monster cats in Ontario Canada cause getting monster cats across the bored is a problem most times.

P.S. dont tell me im crazy i already know that :screwy:

thanks ethan

Im new to the forums but not new to the fish hobby.... I think your idea is excellent... my RTC's are currently in a 300 gallon stock tank and it is not fair for them to even be kept in that space. RTC's and SNC get far too big for 98% of people and really should have as much space as possible.

For what you offer I commend you :)

The problem is there beautiful fish, and do excellent in captivity. When they gain size and LFS will not take them, they will simply release them (causing other problems) or submit them to a tank far too small...

I myself take in reptiles that have gotten too large (berms, monitors, ect), In newyork not many people keep monster fish, but if I see more of a problem I too may set up an indoor pond so i have the ability to take in larger fish. PLUS my RTC's / wanas will lvoe it :headbang2

Regardless Ill save your name and direct large catfish owners in need your way...that is until i get my pond set up :D

they really are a beautiful fish but they do get big they eat alot well when you have 8 rtcs they eat alot and 6 tsn and what not already and its also said that LFS wont take them back if you wont take them back and put them in a proper pond or 55000 gallon fish tank dont sell them or even if they wont take them back at least give people that have monster cats or fish a persons number email or what ever it be that can take them so they can live there life out :)

its just the nature of the hobby. people who are fully aware of how big a fish may get still gets intrigued by the monster factor of these animals and convince themselves they can handle it. in all honesty, i bet everyone here is guilty of it at least once if not a few times in their fish keeping career.

yeah im pretty sure we all are

I know I was and then I made a 1400 gal pond for my RTC!

If you're prepared to feed all the monsters you have room for then go for it. Monster Fish Rescue has gone under iirc so there need to be more people out there taking these guys in.

I saw a tsn at a lfs and was I want that. But then I thought about it and was like there is no way I can house this in 75 or 125 so I decided against it. There are way too many people with rtc and tsn that shouldn't have them.
