rtc eating rocks lol

so im growing out a red tail cat in my 180 for a friends pond. right now hes about 5" long.. my substrate is caribsea peace river http://www.caribsea.com/itempage_freshwatersubstrate_supernaturals.htm it says that its 1-2mm in size. every time i feed him (massivore pieces broken up) he sucks in maybe 3-4 of these rocks and doesnt spit them out lol... his belly always looks huge because he eats so much, and every morning its a little smaller. i cant find any poop ever so im not able to tell if hes pooping them out lol... what do you guys think? maybe im just being over-paranoid

If youve seen him eat them then he probably is eating them. Hopefully he spits them out. I would go barebottom for a couple weeks and then add sand or mud. Keep away from small rocks

At 5", I think there is no need anymore to be breaking the pellets. He should be able to swallow them whole.

Yeah, small gravel is not recommended. Either sand or large rocks or bare would be better. But if he keeps ingesting them and passing them without any noticeable problems (he'd refuse to eat if he had an intestinal clog/slowdown), then in theory it can be ok. But it is an experiment that I'd avoid.

i have to break them up for my goby.. the rtc just vacuums up what my goby misses
