I went to LFS and most of the red tailed cats had extended gills. It looked weird...is it normal? Wondering if they are sick specimen. I'd like your opinion on this

Do you mean gill that extend over their fins a little? mine has that too. He's only three inchs and I've only had him for a week so I don't know much about them. Though, I've wanted one for 20 years

Do you meen Gill Curl. thats not good. In this condition, the gill cover of the fish curl outward, initially involving only the solf part of the cover and later the hard gill cover. If the cause is not removed, condition will get worst, gill will get exposed, causing breathing difficulty and making the gill prone to infection. The end result could be fetal. It is normaly down to Poor water condition.

It looks like the RTC has two slits on each side. On is normal and the larger one near the pectorals protrude outward and stick out a little. most of them had this so I wasn't sure
