I know there's a bunch of threads about Redtail feeding but I didn't really see anything about wild caught fish for feeding him. I'm curious about what kind of fresh water or salt water fish I can catch and feed to him I don't know if the laws are different else where but in the state of maine we have to kill or release so I would cut it up and clean it for him. we have an abundance of mackerel(saltwater) in our area could he safely eat those and do they provide enough nutrition for him?

Mackerel are fine as part of the diet but they're very fatty. Not a good staple.

Agree. The leaner, the better. In the wild they feed on fish (alive or dead), crabs, and fallen fruits. The fish are tropical, not temperate or cold water, hence, they are far leaner. Even the adaptable-but-still-temperate-water goldfish is not a good staple for an RTC, leading to a fatty liver disease.
