RTC growth rate

how small a baby we talking about? I got mine at 1.5". Is that small enough. From there it grew from 1.5" to 5.5" in the first month, 5.5" to 8" at the end of the second month, 8" to 10" at the end of the 3rd month, 10" to 13" in the fourth month, 13" to 14" in the fith month and he's now 16.5" at the end of the 6th month. Hope that helps. Also have raised others that grew a little slower than this, but this is the only one I really kept track of from month to month. I fully expect him to be over 2' after I've had him a year. He's by far the fastest growing catfish I've ever had, but funny thing is after he outgrew my channel cat, last month the channel cat surpased him yet again. Weird huh?
 
Anywheres from 1-2" is pretty common on normally fed cats. On this site though 3-6" is not unheard of with a certain degree of powerfeeding. Regardless of feeding habits though no two RTC's grow at the exact same pace so all bets are off until you see for yourself.

2" per month is probably a good average, just remember that when they are really small they have very fast metabolisms, and the larger they get the slower their metabolism gets. A 1" rtc will need to eat more frequent and larger meals for it's size than a 1' rtc, and once they hit 3' they never need feedings more than once per 5 days unless you are feeding really small meals. They grow very fast to begin with and as they get larger the growth becomes slower and slower. From my expirience 3" a month if you get them super small under 2", and 2" as an average after that until about 1', and then it's like 1.5" till they hit 18" and about 1" after that and at 30" they slow way down. You'd be lucky to see .25" per month, and at 36", your looking more at .1" per month, do the math they grow continously their entire life, but it will not be noticible month by month after a long time.
 
Average is about 2" per month. Depending on water changes, filteration, and feedings...it can get a lot bigger faster.
 
I am just curious about the RTC. I have a few questions....

1) I saw a RTC at Petland Discount for sale at 3 inches long for $69.99 my question is , is that a fair price for a 3 inch RTC? or is that a serious rip off?

2) Can a RTC and a Channel Cat and a Pleco Live together at the same size?

3) Is there anyone or anywhere where I can get an RTC for less than $69.99 LMAO :ROFL::screwy:
 
id like to know this too. im selling off my fish to get a rtc and id like to keep it with my channel cat
