I have to RTC and i just broke them up, i transfered the other to another tank because the other one bit and held onto the other ones fin so it ended up with a broken fin... Are RTC territorial or just aggresive to there own kind? Is it a bad idea to put 2 RTCs together in the same community tank? thanks

Young RTC's are famous for fighting with each other, and Older RTC's are famous for eating each other and everyone else in the tank... They aren't agressive to their own kind, they are equal oppurtunity eaters!
There is no such thing as a community tank with RTC's unless the rest of the community is bigger than they are and will Stay bigger than they are... with 2 RTC's ... one of them is going to be bigger than the other... or simply more agressive and will kill the other at some point.

I couldnt keep two together either 
My dominant one tried to eat the other at least 3 times....... and they were within 1/2" of each other 
Luckily I cought him every time or I definately would only have one left. They were about 5" at that time. I'm gonna try it again soon though only this time with my 30" and my 20" rtc's. I wonder if thats gonna be possible ?????

Once they get monster sized if they have a large pond to be in then there doesn't seem to be AS MUCH of a problem, but miss a feeding and you might be missing a cat LOL
RTC will try to eat nearly anything and don't seem to like their own king when young, your best chance is to seperate them and add them back when they are like both 8". But beware at that stage the bigger one could eat the smaller one.

hes right! my RTCs coexist just fine except for at feeding time where they bicker a little bit but nothing serious. my larger RTC cant eat the smaller RTC at this size cause thye r both simply too big so alls goodbasslover34;1343917;1343917 said:

Is it normal for a RTC to have a lot of movement in its mouth? I mean it looks like he's gasping for air but my tank is well aerated.. Newbie here.. hehehe.. thanks..
Alot of times they will do it as a sign of stress, or after they have just eatten I've noticed mine has the habit of doing that. RTC's actually don't need as much oxygen as most fish so as long as you have some agitation in the tank/box then you should be good.
