My RTC has slowed his eating down substantially. He was eating tilapia fillets and shrimp daily. With the occasional treats. I can't afford massivore anymore, but he loved that. I guess my question is what made him slow. Water quality is fine. He is in a temporary home. (6Lx2Wx2T). I am moving in April and building a 8Lx4Wx3T. He is also about 17".

The tank is way to small for him. You have a 17" fish in a 24" tank...

What test kit are you using?

If I was you I would buy a kiddie pool to keep him in until you have built the bigger tank. A lot of people will tell you that 8x4x3 isn't big enough to keep it in comfortably but if you are keeping it alone it's a lot better home than a very high % of RTCs sold worldwide IMO

I've also seen people say about them getting bored of always eating the same food, have you tried feeding something different?

When one of my cats stopped eating I started feeding live earthworms, and that got them started again.. If u plan to keep your rtc for life you need something much larger than 8 x 4 feet.. If your building a pond for it, why not just build one at something like 14 x 14 feet.. That would imo be good for him for life.
