ok guys Id like to start off by stating I have a 8'x2' round indoor pond. Now I have a baby RTC that I bought 2 weeks ago. Hes about 2" long. now mabe 3 lol. Anyway I have him in a 10gal to watch his feeding and stuff sense he was new. It has 1 emporer 400, and 2 aquaon 30 filters. Perfect water peramiters all the time and I do a 25% wc everyday anyway. I planned on putting him in the 125 after 3weeks but It sprung a leak and I had to drain it..When I did that I decided to build a canister filter for it. 30gal of scrubbies now and 2 300gph pumps. So my question is. should I leave him in the 10gal for another 3weeks and wait for the 125 to cycle or should I put him in the bigger tank. and let him help with the ammonia cycle. There are about 20 rosy reds in there now..Thanks in advance

if you put it in now with it not cycled not only would it be horrible to your fish...it will most likly develop gill curl and die...cats are sensitive to water conditions...it would kinda be like dropping you in a construction site outhouse for 3 weeks...

As long as he doesn't get as big as the tank lol , and can swim I think he should be fine.

he'll do fine in the ten gallon so long as the water is perfect and your could prob take a break from all the water changes just do 25% every other day all that new water might shock him a bit?

ya I was thinkin it would be bad to put him in the big tank so quick but I didnt know if they could develop gill curl from being in just a small tank. And Ill cut back on the water changes. I always treat the water before I put it in the tank.

Rock and a hard place, there. If it were me, I'd be doing 25% a day, too. As long as he's used to it, it's stable. I've got a quarantine baby Koi in my 20gal right now, and I'll be doing 30% a day. Best of luck with the RTC.

The title of this thread scared my pants off.

if you were to take the filters from the 10gal and put them on the bigger tank it will be fine to put your cat in there...you already have the bio that handles the cat on the filters from that tank...if you want you can do that and they will 'seed' the tank aswell...i would still give it a lil time to cycle, but if the cat gets to big that is an option...

OK thanks. I expect hell be to big for the 10gal in about 3 weeks. which will give the other tank some more time to cycle. Ive taken about 2 dozon scrubbies from the pond filter and put them in the tanks filter. hopefully that speeds it up to. IF it comes to it ill just do what was stated above.

This should do the trick.

The media in the filter on the 10g can handle the rtc...so it should be able to handle the rtc in the bigger thank as well...as long as the only bio load in the bigger tank is the rtc. This should seed all the new bio media.

i do it with any new tank i set up...i have many hob filters running...if i have a problem i tank one off a tank and set up a 'medical tank' and they filter is ready to go...
