I was wondering about wether a RTC would be ok in a tank that is room temp , the reason for this is everyone knows that RTC grow massive and need very big tank/ponds, so i was thinking if i dont have to have a large heater to heat a huge tank/pond it would save me money . If you can not keep a RTC in room temp does anyone have any methods which will save me moneyon heating?

Any help would be great :)

hmmmm, I have always kept mine at room temp with no problems whatsoever. Currently have a 31" tsn x rtc kept at 73 f. Been at that temp for a year and 2 months now. I guess maybe it has more to do with acclimation than anything. Anyone else feel free to chime in, but I have caught my tank at temps as low as 68 f. and the fish didn't act the least bit lethargic, or have any negative side effects. I am however aiming to raise the temps of my tanks to a higher temp so that I can avoid ich, and many parasites. So if at all possible keep them at a higher temp.

Thanks for replys really helpful :) MFK!:headbang2

could you please post a couple of full tank shot's of your tanks please, just to get an idea of the size you need.

I know that the tanks need to be huge but i can not imagine how big

any pics would be great :) thanks

these arent really aquarium fish, more pond fish. they grow so big so quick and there max size is rediculous. i dont think that room temp will be warm enough if you are here in the UK either.

oh, and welcome to the site!

Yeah in the UK room temp will not be enough by itself, unless the heatings always on and like paying the stupid amounts for energy we are being charged right now.

Carl.

Yeah i didnt think that room temp would do in england , but global warmingis on the way ;)
just kidding. my lfs has a red tail which is about 27inch its reallyimpressive and the tank is huge cause i think he custom built it.

thanks for help any way gus :)
