if i had a 5000 gallon pond with koi and i wanted to get rtc would these temperatures where i live be okay or would i need to get a heater for winter
if so where and what

temperature where i live

lowest:
(at day)10 degrees celcius or 50 degrees farenheit
(at night) 2 degrees celcius or 36 degrees farenheit (not common even in winter)

highest:
(at day) 40 degrees celcius or 100 degrees farenheit
(at night) not sure?

How deep are you going to make your pond? If you did decide to do it, you'd want to make sure that the Koi were large enough not to get eaten. RTC have some serious growth on them, easily pass a koi up.

If your pond is AT LEAST three feet deep on one end, you may be able to get away with it. You would have to definitely put in some sort of heater in the deep end. Two 500 watt heaters would be more than enough to keep the deep end in the acceptable ranges. If you can get a larger heater though that would be best. Be sure to put a cage or something around them so the fish don't burn themselves. Main problem will be your electricity bill.

If you could catch the RTC and bring it inside for the winter months that would be your best bet. ;)

I quote you:

(at night) 2 degrees celcius or 36 degrees farenheit (not common even in winter)

Still would be a good idea to bring them inside if you could during the colder months if possible. ;)
