Hello, what size in length and lbs will a rtc get to in a pond say about 12 feet by 12 feet and say 2 feet deep? Can I keep a tsn and rtc in together with 2 black pacu permanently?:nilly:

No mater where you keep a RTC your still looking at 3 1/2 to 4 feet long and even that will take a number of years. Although A handful of pictures and stories circulate around the internet about the mythacal 6 footers you wont ever see one.

Even in Phoenix you need to worry about heating an outside pond in the winter time. These fish do NOT do well below 78 degrees. I kept a pond in Phoenix for a lot of years and my brother still has one there. Water temperitures in the low 50's are common. A pond may SEEM like a low cost alternitive but once you switch from cold water firsh to tropicals the expences go through the roof.

yeh ure pond is fine for life. pacus might need a deeper pond because they grow quite high as they do long. perhaps 3 feet deep. red tails dont swim all that much if they r full. ure 12 foot pond shud be fine. pacus, TSN and RTCS live together all the time. the problem comes with size. if they are all similar in size then it shud work out fine. no promises.....there have been too many disasters to gurantee anything.

Ok, I was thinking of an indoor pond in an addition to the house with tall plants etc growing around it, skylights on top with some light for the plants.

if ure thinking about plants then forget the fish. red tails and tigers and notorious from uprooting any plants and messing up decorations because of their sheer power. pacus will just eat all ure vegetation. but yeh having the pond indoors is a good idea. saves on the heating factor. honestly, the best is to skip the decoration. if u want hiding places maybe some heavy rocks that cant be moved....

Oh the plants are all to be outside of the pond like a pond in the forest.

Most RTC's will attain a size of 3-4 foot in ponds, if not bigger. But Pacu almost grow 2 foot high. So you're gonna need a min height of 4 feet to correctly house these lunkers.

A 3 to 4 foot depth is going to be essential for that mix to work out. Don't forget that the plants around the indoor pond are going to add to the load of the filter system. By the way...what are you planning for a filter system?
