rtc mucas shedding

hi my redtail is shedding mucas why do they do this my water is good it does it every now and then he is 15inch

I thought they liked acidic to neutral water. (6.0-7.0) They're South American fish, so I I'm pretty sure they don't like alkaline water.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Sovel noses and Limas will tolerate a wide PH 6-8 for tiger 6.5-7.5 for Lima but i have found red tails are better at this ph
