Hey guys & girls...
Can someone please explain to me why RTC's shed their mucusy skin, and also wether this changes their attitudes a bit i.e eating less etc...
Thanks :D

Check the water quality these guys can go pretty fast if it turns on you. They almost melt if the conditions get too bad it is a nasty sight. Maybe time for a quiclk water change and some salt.

water qualitys perfect, hes only been in the tank just over 24 hrs, he may just be adjusting.. either my weekly water change is due so ill see how he goes. Thanks guys.

i dont think it has anything to do with the water perams. mine were perfect along with weekly water changes and my rtc did the same thing.. and ditn eat for a couple days... but its perfectly healthy now and eating alot more than he did before

Usually they will shed mucus if the water isn't to their liking.

i have found that too. not necisarily bad, but they arent used to it:)

yeh at first i thought he was just getting accustomed to his new surroundings and i did a bit of research on the net and found out they do these regularly.. well my water params are definately better than the tank i got him from thats for sure!

Its funny you mentioned that, while hes been shedding hes been off his food, i hope it dosent last long.

From my memory it did not happen to mines (neither the first time or now) ... sounds serious - especially not eating part, but if the water is correct then i am also completely lost

Good luck in any case
