My new aquired RTC is being harrased and litterately veing ate alive by my south american chichlids. Theyre all very small. 8 in total, largest being a 3" oscar. He doesnt pay him any mind. Its the others. I built him a cave to get comfy in and he does stay in there, but after a couple days whiskers were nearly gone, fins picked at, and he doesnt cone out. I dont blame him.
Why so much agression from them? My water parameters are checked daily and none of the other fish in the tabk have any problems. Theyre just being real dbags.
Any ideas?

Cichlids are mean....lesson learned cichlid's need territory. In guessing the tank isn't that big. We need to know tank size and cichlid type specifically....regardless Cichlids are mean/nasty they are usually territorial....that's no suprise to me that they are attacking the RTC. Don't take experiences from others who have kept cichlids with RTC and run with it. Each experience is different your cichlids may be meaner than others each one is different.

1 green terror, 2 firemouths, 2 jewels, one dempsy, 2 oscars (one of them may as well be a tetra...)
Under 3 inches and attacking a cat?? Wow

That's a big tank for such small fish to be beating on the cat. Go to home Depot get some light defuser (egg crate) and make a divider. With in a month your cat will be big enough to eat all his tankmates

I was thnking about doing something like this. Good news: my RTC is getting his appetite back (less stressed?) Eating regularly now. Maybe he's starting to get acclimated...these chichlids are nasty, they will devour feeder fish, and the tiger oscar eats from my hand believe it or not.
I typically dont drop feeders in as their primary diet. I have dropped in a couple out of curiosity and they didnt last long

But yes, the RTC still hides out in the cave i built for him...yet to really see him come out
