so I just got a rtc 4 inch and I have it in a 55 for now. I will be putting it in a 90 once I move and get it set up in the next month or so. I know the 90 is not a life long home I have a 125, buying a 300+ for the new house (now that i will have a basment) and have someone with a 3500gal pond that will take him if he gets to big.

any way what I need to know is will a rena fx3 be enought filltration for this tank? also what would you run for media. I'm trying to do this on the cheap I only have 100 or so in to the 90 , filter stand ect.. and I still need to buy a heater and sand. so any suggestions on cheap sand and indistructable heats let me know.

Thanks

that filtration should be fine as long as you keep up with your weekly water/changes...as for media, I would get some carbon to rid of discolorations and funky smells and just toss in whatever you can get to keep you tanks nice and clean. But for heater...you mean you have the RTC in a tank with no heaters? or is this for the other tanks?

the tank its in is heated I need to get a heater for the 90 tank. I keep reading that rtc are hard on things in there tank so I don't want a heater that will get broke. I have a 300w now for the 90 but its glass.

I used a 300 watt stainless steel with my last bigh RTC. Got it from Fosters and Smith I believe.

Enjoy the fish they are great fish probably my favorite fish ever. I still love them and want one but like you said eventually they really need a pond.

The nice part about the rtc is the wife thinks its cute. She hates the p bass and the few ca/sa chiclids that I have. She's just mad I got ride of the koi and goldfish we bought when we first set up the tank. I was not aware that fish kepping was addictive.

check my sig. im sure youll find it:)

Stealth heaters are pretty tough. If you come across a wet/dry you can use any heater you want.

I have what I belive is a 15gal sump with bioballs but have no clue how to go about seting it up never planed on it just came with one of the tanks I bought. I would need all the plumbing for it.
