My RTC is acting unusual he is sitting in the corner of the tank and is sitting up and down instead of the usual way he looks ok I did throw 1 smelt in and he did eat it he is 4 years old and in A 480 gallon tank and by himself water is ok

What we're trying to find out are exact numbers. See, the problem is that "okay" is a relative term, but numbers are concrete terms we can all speak in. So, since this fish should be at least 3 feet by now, and the tank size isn't that large, it is important to know the actual numbers.

Aside from the other info requested, how big is he? My juvi rtc has done that before. He likes to do it on top of the sponge filter i put in there for kicks 
Is there anything in the tank he could have swallowed,,rocks,gravel, thermometer, intake cover ,decorations? Mine swallowed an 8 inch diameter silk floating lily pad, puked it back 3 days later.
Are you feeding live? Have you had any possible temperature changes? When was your last water change, and could anything have happened with that? Also, I agree with flyin lizard about thinking about the possibly that he might have eaten anything he wasn't supposed to.
Whats the PH/Temp of the tank and have you tried a quick water change...it always keeps my fish happy.
