Sorry guys I have'nt been on in awhile and I have to jet out of town tomorrow morning, but before I leave quick help needed if anyone could... My RTC appears to have his slime coat coming off... This is the thrid time in about a wek after I had my house tented for termites. Some what common on RTCs that anyone knows of??? I am doing a 50% wc now. No they were not in for the tenting of course (what a pain in the as$ that was).... ANyway, it could be unrelated. I was just curious. I will 50% wc with Prime and garlic extract. Any other ideas???

I'm curious, how can you tell if the slime coat's coming off? What'r the signs? Might have had this issue with my RTC a few weeks ago.

It appears thataround his head and on his back he has a film that seems to be coming off. I really do not know a better way to describe it... ALl water params are ok and he eats like a RTC should... Well as I type this he hasn't eaten since last night and doesn't race to the top like he normally does when he sees me for the first time of the day.

its actually a defense mechanism is what i have heard. so ur rtv shuld be just find. but i wuld try to find out what happnd. mayb something or someone messd/spookd him

Your rtc should be fine. It happens to mine once in a while and to this day he is perfectly healthy. Good luck and I hope your red tail is fine. They are truly beautiful fish:)

Throw some carbon into the filter if you are worried about chemicals.
Shedding is normal but should not happen too often unless the fish is spooked or has external parasites.

This is common and is noted in one of the RTC stickes.

Thanks all for the help. I got back into town last night ...errr or the night before lol I don't remember and all is good. I have a little more time now to check into other posts from the past and will try and research as much as I can. I did the massive water change and added garlic (which now I think was a little strange that I did the garlic)... Any way I appreciate everyone's responses.
