Rtc tail color development

Hello, I recently purchased a baby rtc, I do have all the proper grow out tanks and a 6000g pond at my friends place where he will be staying once he is large enough. But I was wondering how long it takes or how I can get the red to show up in his tail. It's still white with a slight red tinge to it. Very active little guy, already love him! Any advice would be great, thanks!

Notice they are not the same RTC...muhahaha(pictures are not mine)

Oh I forgot to mention, when I had my RTC years ago, I usually feed the fish until his stomach was somewhat round, then not feed again until the stomach went back to normal.

Such poor choices on tankmates for such a little guy lol! And yeah I gorge mine until his belly is nice and round then I skip the next day and after that he is usually ready to eat again
