How long can a rtc live in my 72"x15"x 18" 85 gallon tank before relocation is absolutely necessary? The ones at the pet shop are about an inch long. I had one before that was about 5 inches when I got it and I had him about 6 months and he only grew to 9 inches. And he ate healthy and like a pig! It was by gar my favorite fish until I got rid of him and I really want to get another. I'm tryi g to talk my dadi to building a pond in the back yard so I could keep one for life. Would a 500 gallon pond be big enough if it has a big footprint?

Well since your not willing to move your RD and JD I would say not very long at all. What has been the average life span of the other fish that have been put in that tank? You really think it's gonna be different with the RTC? :duh:

The ones they have now are only 1 inch long. I forgot to mention it. And I didn't think about how cold it gets. It gets to about 15 degrees ferenheit at the lowest so its kinda out of the question. Most of my fish are succesful. The only ones that have been killed was one Oscar. The rest died from diseasethat came out of nowhere and being sucked untie filter because the intake fell off leaving an open hole to get sucked in. Now unless I can build a Indoor tank I won't be getting one. Someday though! By far my favorite fish I've ever kept. Thanks for the fast input!
