Hello! My little RTC ate some shrimp I gave him and then regurgitated it back up! I just wanted to know was this normal? Thanks to all who reply

RTC are known to regertate food. One of the reasons large filterations systems are recommended. I've heard of RTC's dying because of it.

maybe sometimes..do feed'em and wait till they swallow..don't give'em toooo much..they'll regertate it back..

For some reason people tend to overfeed the crap out of little rtc's....... avoid doing this and you will save yourself alot of grief down the road. I dont think its "normal" if they are fed correctly. They dont have to have a huge belly to grow and be happy.

JMO of course.........

Definitely a sign of overfeeding, but could also be other internal problems, and could also be an early indicator of ammonia in the water. What are your parameters?

my rtcs have never thrown up b4. just because they have large mouths its still better to chop up the shrimp into smaller pieces. this helps digestion and avoids vomiting. dont overfeed and wait for him to chew and swallow b4 dropping in multiple shrimps.

Feed smaller amounts. Juvienile RTC's are commonly overfed. this isnt good for them. Once a day is all that you'll need. And afford later down the track.

It's not just over feeding although I agree that an every other day feeding schedule is best. Most people want to WATCH thier baby RTC's eat and this stresses them out because at that age all they want to do is find a nice place to hide and eat when nobody is looking....

Look at it from the baby RTC's viewpoint....EVERYTHING and I do MEAN EVERYTHING including your mom and dad can and WILL eat you on sight....This is why RTC's go through so many changes as they grow...At 12" or so they become more outgoing and once they hit 18 to 20" they turn into completely differant fish.

Feed the little guy at night after the lights are out and leave the room...trust me he/she WILL eat.

:iagree: I feed all my cats every 2 days and cut the shrimp in to small chunks easily taken in by all of them .My little rtc hides all day and night and I usualy feed right b4 lights out I only feed him a few pieces of shrimp per feeding as to keep the risk of regurgitation low.
