rtc + tsn info

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Red tails can get to over a meter (that's over 3 feet, sometimes 4 feet) in length, and quite bulky too. However, they don't always grow so large. Expect a minimum 60cm (24 inches) for these guys, but have a bigger tank ready, because you can expect more.

RTCxTSNs don't exactly have a set size, since they are hybrids of two fish. This means that, because of genetic variation whenever a hybrid is produced, it can attain any random large size. However, you can expect a HUGE fish, considering that both the parent species are known to attain over 3 feet in length.

As far as I have seen, most RTCxTSNs reach roughly 4 feet in length. Mine grew from 4" to 10" in a few months, still growing. :)

Expect a minimum of an RTC to grow 40" if housed properly, it will still grow longer. TSN's can grow longer than 3 feet, that would be about minimum size as well. And the hybrid should be able to reach 40" as well, if not be larger than the RTC itself.

This would be in about 4-5 years.

They are all known to grow longer than 4 feet, some growing 5-6 feet.

well ive only had my two for about 3months or so, so i cant attest for how large they will get but, when i bought both of mine one was noticably larger than the other. The larger one of the two took almost a week till he would finally eat anything i put into the tank, but the smaller one ate anything id put in. Needless to say 3months later and a good 3+ inches later the smaller hybrid is now the larger more dominant one. He eats 3 times his body weight and has becomes the dominant one in the tank. So before you buy one people please be ready to upgrade tanks or go to a pond very quickly
