JUST A COPY AND PASTE FROM MY LAST THREAD WHICH FEW POSTED SO HOPEFULLY W/ PICS MORE PEOPLE WOULD HELP..THANKS!:D

hey guys..ok so far everything is going well, or at least I think it is...my "progress" is as follows btw my tank is 15 gal. but will be upgrading soon to 120 gal for rtc so please don't flame coz i know in the long run i will end up w/ 1500-3000gal or more..thanks:

rtc shows signed of monster appetite and is very active specially at feeding time
food he eats include meal worms, superworms, freeze dried shrimp and sinking pellets..fed twice a day until stomach gets a little plump..has grown slightly to about 4-5"
I do 20% or more water changes twice a week
and finally got a test kit but only the ammonia test kit because it only cost half the price of complete set
gill curl did not get worse

now the other stuff i did
got a baby giant gourami bout 2" and a common pleco about 3"
all fish aren't fighting and the gourami is active and eating meal worms and flowerhorn pellets..
got driftwood and cucumber for pleco
got freeze dried tubifex worm cubes for the gourami
got air stone to increase oxygenation

now my questions:
what do you think guys?
is it ok to have just ammonia test kit coz it is the most toxic of the three(nitrate, nitrite, ammonia) and stresses the fish?
is the airstone a good idea?
what type if filter is ideal for the huge bioload of RTC?
is my water changing schedule ok??

Also please give tips and advice on gourami care, pleco care, rtc care obviously, or any other matter you think needs improving or criticizing..Thanks again everyone!!!!!!:):D:)

wait why can't i post attachments?! darn! oh well..please wait until attachments are fixed..

u can use photobucket if you really feel the need to get pics.

how do i do that?sorry if im such a noob
:)

Well it is sounding like you are doing ok so far but yes you will need a compleat test kit if you cant spend a little more on that what will happen when you need to spend mega money on a bigger home iv spent thousands on my redtails and in a few years you will be talking tens of thousand and yes i know i am mad but if i am to keep them ill give it the best home i can. Sorry rant over but you will need to test ph as a change in ph ie if it crashes it will killa RTC over night, Nitrite if a fish is exposed to it for to long can and will case blood poisening or brown blood desease wich will also kill!! so yes i think you need to get a better test kit and dont get the strip's you dip in the water as they are a load of **** you will want something like the API freshwater test kit it's what i use and have done for years. As for feeding you really need to cut down to once a day i know the feeling you see your little fella beggin for food and you just want to give in but trust me stay strong and dont once a day while he is small will be fine. And has he grows cut down to every other day and so on i feed onec a week 1 whole trout each other wise you will end up needing to be cleaning your filters out every other day and doing water changes every other day iv been there. Im pleased to see you are beeing seriouse and know that oneday you will need a tropical pond of some kind. As for your giant G they also grow quick and can get agresive with age mine use to try and eat my RTC wiskers all the time till my RTC had enouth and killed him :( didant eat him just bashed him in to the side till no more benny :(
Hope this has been of some help and you have not taken offece to anything i have put it's just i am very passionate abot RTC and i hate to hear of them being kept badly and have seen it to many time in the pass

Dan :)

Have just checked out your album and he is a lovly little RTC and your little giant G is nice two but you need to get them in a bigger home ASAP that is no where near big enought and it needs to be in weeks NOT mounths but i will say the water is looking good but i can also notice some gill curl which indicated ammonia has been to high as some point

yeah rtc had gill curl when i got him..it won't go away but he has been doing well and eating alot..my ammonia is 0ppg ..i will rush that 125 gal tank man..thanks for checking those out!!
