Rtc x Tsn jumped

So today i found my hybrid red tail shovelnose behind the aquarium. I think it jumped out last night and i didnt notice he was missing until around 2pm today. Unfortunately i was too late in finding him and he died. He had broken part of the glass top and had a big gash in his side. He was about 1foot in length. Sad thing is i was about a month away from putting him in my parents pond.

Sorry for your loss but what was your water quality like as it is very rear for them to jump unless they are in very bad water quality ie being burt by Amonia. So they jump to try and get out and in to fresh water.

Thats what i thought too. I've never heard of these catfish jumping out of their tanks so I checked it right after he jumped out to make sure i wasnt having problems with the water.

Nitrate-20-40ppm. I thought maybe the nitrate was a little high so i did a 30% wc.
ph- 7.3

I have heard him hit the tank top a couple of times at night. He chases my african cichlids all over, and has eaten a couple of his tankmates including a juvie pleco before. He was one of the most active fish i had. Im thinking it might have been a fluke accident trying to catch one of the other fish.
