My hybrid of one year and 12 inches changes colors sometimes, at times the top part of him is dark brownish-black and his spots arent that visible, and at other times he's a light brown almost orange and his spots are very visible. Any reason why this happens?

Could be stress or water quality issues.

^^ This could be why, and also light conditions can change their coloration.

Is he a full year old? I'm a little surprised that he's not more like 14+ inches.

thing is hes been in a 25 gallon high all this time, just today i moved him to the new 75, and when his color gets lighter hes always active maybe just hungry
