Hey guys I have a few questions on My rtc. He's about 4 inches and i ggot him about 2 weeks ago. He currently eats a night Crawler every 24 hours. My question is why doesn't he come out of his cave. When I feed him if the night Crawler doesn't drop in his cave he will not touch it. He also is very shy and NEVER have I seen him out of his cave. The current tank is 10 gal, SAND BOTTOM and a 60 gallon filter. And his Ph is around 7.3 and I do a water change (30%) every week. His tank temp stays around 78. I'm actually currently setting a 20 long up for him and I'm debating to take his ccave out. Every one I know says they hand feed and some times pet there's. could it be because he's a baby?

I know I won't be the only one to ask this but do you have a larger tank in mind? Trust me when I say that 10 gallon won't hold him but for a couple weeks to a month or so. And he feels safe in the cave so I wouldn't take it away from him. In time he will come out and probably eat anything you put in the tank with him.
I did research on these fish for weeks and months. I know how large these fish get. After the 20 gallon i have a 55 and after that he has a pool that I'm gonna customize
Mine 2"-3"-ers were all hiders. They will embolden as they grow. Also, if he is new in the tank (like a week or two), he is still adjusting. But he will hide. So, it's normal. Get a peek at night if he is out. He should be out and about looking for food. If he is not mighty hungry, he won't come out for unfamiliar food in the day light. His instinct tells him to hide, eat, and grow as fast as possible to outgrow being predated on.
That makes sense lol. Thanks for the info. I actually was just looking at him and he's cruising around looking for the few guppies that are left.
