what's the largest catfish that I could put in a 55 gallon aquarium with 4 silver dollars (mettyniss argentus(sic))? Initially I was thinking of ornate pim, but those are 10" in a 13" tank. :(
I am also getting a camera cord along with my tank's stock for my birthday (jan 31) and I WILL POST PICS!
I was thinking of the following:
Megalonema platycephalum
Iheringichthys megalops
Pimelodus albicans
Mystus bocourti
Any Ideas are accepted!

If you're looking for something that acts like a rtc, get a giant bumblebee.
They're a little less active, but tend to be rtc-ish IME

The Asian Bumble bee gets big, not the SA version. You can also go with a Jaguar Catfish, although they hide alot.

i have a 9'' SA bumblebee. :)

This is why common names suck.

Jeox has Pseudopimelodus bufonius, which does indeed reach 9", and does live in SA... but is not the true south american bumblebee cat, Microglanis iheringi , or something from that species complex.

Pseudopimelodus sp. get 9"+, but Microglanis sp. only gets 2.2 inches. Make sure you know the latin on what you buy!

Finally got my account working again, NO THANKS TO my internet connection.
No one has told me about my listed fish...
And I was referring to in appearance, not personality.

Nothing really looks like a RTC, except another RTC, lol. Asian red tails don't even look like SA redtails (asians are bagrids; souths are pimelodids, different body shape and # of barbels).

If your looking for something that looks somewhat (as in, the same number of barbels....) like a RTC, go with a SA pimelodid cat, or a school, as the case may be. Most of the active pimelodids (P. Pictus, Ornatus, blochi, etc) prefer to school.

Nothing in asia looks like a RTC, but the bagrid family of catfish is interesting indeed (the various mystus species).

Basically, go with what looks cool and you like! =)

no one told me about the fish I posted about yet...

i think sun cats look relatively close to a rtc, the colors are different though, a sun cat is greenish-gold with a red or yellow tail. in my opinion sun cats looks sort of like a cross between a channel cat and a rtc.
