So I've had my RTCxTSN for about 8 months and he's grown from a cute 2" baby to a 22" monster. I've noticed he acts weird for about a week after I add new fish, I think it stresses him out but too bad while he does own the tank, he doesn't own the tank of ya know what I mean. Anyways for like 2 weeks he hasn't been eating (to my knowledge ) and he's just been constantly swimming against the glass towards the middle and top of my 500g. No fish pick on him and he doesn't bother the fish, but in the last few days he's slowed down and barely swims, he just sits literally like 6" off the bottom in an amazon sword. He's breathing a lil heavy and his skin looks grey almost like he's about to shed. He did this once before for like a week and then he rubbed the grey almost like dead skin off and he was back in action. If it were a water issue I'd think all the other fish would be more effected.

Any ideas or tips for me? Sould I be worried or do you think he will just pull out of this when he's done throwing a hunger strike? Is this normal as they grow is he almost like shedding? Idk what to think just wondering what your thoughts were.

Thanks!

I was def in the hurricane, but he was acting strange before, and I haven't noticed a change after a couple water changes. I checked my water params today. Ammonia0 nitrite .25 and nitrate under 20ppm. I'd think if it was water, the other fish would be effected much more than my catfish. He's moving more today and doesn't look as bad but still not eating. At what point should I be worried?

umm totally different but i just had a 8" gar stop eating for about 2 weeks. Then he just eventually started to eat.

Maybe throw in a goldfish or something to spark some energy into him

looks like you had a mini cycle, you never see nitrites in a cycled tank, sometimes ammonia but never nitrites. unless you have them in your tap

Hmmm never checked my tap but when I tested they just barely showed. Think adding a bunch could cause a mini cycle? That's about when he started to act weird when I added my pike birchir parrot and 3gars.

Your not supposed to put that many fish in all at once. If you did then that explains the mini cycle. Your bacteria wasn't established enough to add that many fish at once. Remember in a new tank your only supposed to add fish every two weeks and definitely not your whole list of fish on the first round. having said that if your hybrid is acting as you say it could be a number of problems. Agression, water params, crowding, parasites, ate something bad, disease, it could even be the hybrid regurgitated something and it fouled the water. Is the tank in a quiet area or is it in an active area i find that fish tend to be overly cautious towards new people and that could be stressing it did you recently have a party. Bright lights, lack of hiding spots, chemicals. Could somebody have accidentally poured toxic chemicals in your tank while u weren't looking? Maybe u forgot to dechlorinate ur water and somebody unwittingly poured it in for u? There's infinite possibilities I need more info to give u specifics.
