i have an 8" rtg now in a 180gal with a pleco, thinking about getting a couple in 2 months when a buddy is ording some, just wondering if anyone has the same type of setup and how they make out as tankmates?
thanks

arowana usually active at mid to top of water level, and pleco usually stay at the bottom of the tank, so they are fine.

Yes they're good together. I'd just get one though.

They are a popular combo, but I'd recommend either 1 or a few, 3-4 due to aggression issues.

With two the dominant one will bully and stress the other one out to the point of getting very little food, staying small and in extreme cases stop eating and die. With more of them the aggression is spread around and they can all thrive.

For size I would advise buying the dats smaller than your rtg. Good luck.

k thanks for the info, not sure if i`ll get 1 or get 3 or 4 yet.im getting a 450 gal in april so will have room

Be wary with this combo, I tried it several times without much success. The indo dat will claim lower part of the tank. The RTG being curious will cause the dat to be aggressive and defend it's territory. Indo dats have a hell of a nasty bite. Giving the dat some hiding space makes it even more defensive and it protects that particular part of the tank. Having multiple arowana, or dats (more than 5 asian arowana or 3 dats can work as I have seen this done a few times when I lived in Singapore.

good luck.
