my house!!
I'm getting an aro next year (hopefully by February) and I have a few questions. 1.What do I have to look for when picking out a RTG aro (under 12")?
2.Is it possible to tell if the fish has any flaws when it is that small?
3.If I get one under 6" or so ,do I have to provide any special care? (the tank will be 2' deep ,does it need to be shallower for a baby aro?)

1. when buying small aros, try to buy one without defects. pay attention for the tail defects (contracted or pointed downward). look for mouth (avoid small aros with plj potential). when buying aros that small hard to tell the which one with good potential. but its like spinning a lottery card, you might get extremely lucky and get show quality arowana because the seller has no way of knowing the better quality at that size. they will not separate the good quality one for higher price. btw if you want to increase your chance of getting good quality arowana, check the farm certificate first to know where they are coming from. good parent will have more chance of producing good quality offsprings.

2. avoid plj or tail pointing downwards. look for scales if there is any scratch or damage. barbel should be pointed forward

3. smaller arowana need shallower water. try 2 inch first and see how it respond

2ft depth is fine, I had my previous RTG in that depth before it jumped out ?

avoid drop-tail, dropeye (rare in Asian arowanas), scale defects and missing barbels.

as stated above hard to distinguish a good quality aro when young, hence the cheaper price
