my house!!
I'm getting an aro in a year or so, planning ahead.I'm torn between getting an rtg or a banjar red.I have a few questions.
1.Which one is hardier? (i've no first hand experience raising aros)
2.Do they have different personalities ? If so ,which is mellower? I plan on housing it with some bichirs.
3.Most banjar reds for sale here don't come with certs (don't know if they're tagged or not) ,is it worth it to spend more money on one that's tagged and comes with a cert?
4.Is it true that RTG grow slower than banjar reds?

Krismo962 Krismo962 they are the same species just different morphs so they are similar in almost every aspect. Im also planning to get an asian aro soon! (After I move) most likely a rtg bc of cost. The only difference i have seen is rtgs tend to get thicker so to say, they seem to have more girth. what size tank are you planning?

150g,i'll probably pass it on to someone with a larger tank once it hits 16-18".

Here in India we get banjar reds that are bred in the country itself or maybe some are brought in from Thailand, Malaysia or Singapore. But none of them cone with a certificate and they cost anywhere between Rupee 8-10k (approx 130$) for a 6" Specimen.
As for rtg they are all imported and cost about 18-30k (240-400 $ ) depending on the farm, for the same 6" Size.
As stated above banjar grow a bit faster, are a bit slimmer and are a bit more aggressive than the rtg, I think it's because, the banjar is more close to the wild type as it's with the greens.

I had a RTG, I would say it’s nicer looking than a Banjar. Banjar loses colours. Banjars are also more aggressive, but it doesn’t matter if you’re keeping them with bichirs. When I got my rtg, I chose the one without a cert. if you are not planning to sell it, what’s the point of getting a certificate? Not as if it’s something to flex anyways
