hey what happend to the rubber eels, long grey worm like eel that had a salamander looking face,i had a few back in the day,i think ppl were keepin them in all water and maybe they needed more of a salamander set up,i havnt seen them in like 10 years.

Same here - they've been popping up recently with 1 or 2 of our vendors. Never kept one though.

Your talking about Caecilians. legless anphibians often sold as rubber eels. I havn't seen very many of them in the trade for a while but you can still pick them up in a few specialty places.

They can live in an aquarium for quite a while but will always be trying to escape unless they have a bog like land area to climb around on.

They ARE still offered in shops but much much fewer than in the past. They used to be a staple, but not anymore. I think they are now protected, so I believe most are now captive bred. That would explain the 10-year lapse.

If you want an aquatic, larger, carnivorous version go with congo eels, also called amphiuma. They are available the biological supply houses quite cheaply.

MY mom has two! They live in her 55gall, with a bunch of community fish. They seem quite happy in there. One will even eat from your hand. Our LFS carries them. They're quite adorable, if perhaps a bit agressive.. they killed both snails.
