I just purchased 3 EBJD fry and two blue gene fry from two different breeders, of course the 55 gallon tank I planned on using to grow them out in has a pair of F0 Jack Dempsey in it from Jeff Rapps they just spawned for the first time, and id like to keep them for awhile will my plan (using a plastic bin to grow out EBJD in) work? It wouldn't be for long but I just don't want this spawn going to waste, thank you!

any container that is water tight would be fine, given you still have the proper amount of filtration for it, and you have not used the container for anything harmful to the fish. You should be fine for a while with them, i wouldnt take out the F0 spawn ethier.

I didnt plan I really want to watch the parents raise this spawn how should I go about flirting this thing? HOB? Or what? I have two airpumps a sponge filter and a small in tank filter idk what to call it, its a mini version of the ones used in ponds

While back, over a year I dint remember the exact date but they were on his site and a member from aquaria central pointed me towards them

yeah a rubbermaid bin should be just fine, just make sure you didnt use it for anything harmful like stated and rinse it out really well first. i would use the sponge filter you have if its large enough, only thing i dont like about the bins is that its harder to see them so you can't really see if something isnt going right, especially with sensitive juvies like ebjd

You can't fill them up all the way or they warp real fast and could even crack you fill them up half way. That is if we are talking about same type.

I use them in yard as have had lots of firemouth fry and green terror fry .

I don't filter them but change 5 to 10 gallons of water daily or every other day as its rainy season and have rain barrels fed from roof.

You can easily filter them with box filter, sponge ,internal filter but HOB requires water level to be to high and I would never fill them up that high.

They do work well if water level is kept half level the 54 gallon bin is cheap enough and holds up this one has been outside for 6 months now and always with water for some type fry from my stock tanks.

I braced mine with wood to keep it from bowing, but eventually it cracked at the bottom from all the pressure. However it lasted for good while, so you should be able to raise fry in one.
