can I use a 100 gallon rubbermaid tub as an above ground pond? I would have to heat it because I want to put texas cichlids in it. I'd keep it in the garage. Would that work?

I dunno what the climate is like where you live and whether it freezes or not during your wintertime ever, but i suppose most of it would depend on how warm the garage is during night and day. It would probably be best to heat the tub to help prevent large temp fluctuations during night and day as such fluctuations in temp can be quite stressful for fish.
You'd also need to filter it, but as long as you did these things i don't see why it shouldn't work :) .

They should be fine in San Jose. I would be a bit worried about the temp during the summer though, it tends to get hot in San Jose during the summer, lol. You might have some boiled texas cichlids in your garage. About during the winter, just put a small heater in there, place it on top of a piece of slate though, so that it won't melt the rubber if you know what I mean.
