can i keep channel catfish in a 100 gallon rubbermaid pond? 300 gallon? 500 gallon? how many? what about with koi? goldfish? anything? shrimp? do shrimp need tropical weather? what about mosquito fish for mosquito control and for food? what type of catfish besides channel can fit in a 300 gallon pond? i'm pretty sure bullheads tolerate low temps, but in a 300 gallon tank?
im in Norcal east bay so winters are not too bad theres almost never snow or ice around my area and summers are generally bellow>100 and in the upper mid 80's. this winter though, pretty bad rainstorm right now. late too. i could possibly keep the fish indoors in the winters as long as their not TOO BIG...
what kind of plants could i put in a rubbermaid pond that would DESTROY algae? are their any types of paints that are fish safe?
I'm just thinking through the pro's and con's of keeping ponds vs tanks. I can't keep any tanks over 100 gallons because my rooms upstairs and theres no extra support just wood boards. my parents don't want anything downstairs, they just keep complaining that it would stink up the house and the algae would turn the tank into a public health hazard. LOL. the only exception is we have a 150 gallon tortoise enclosure in my mom's office where we house Torty. honestly, i don't know if its 150 gallons, just know its over 100. i have measured them all several times just never recorded the measurements.
EDIT: just realized 500 gal is WAY too small for koi, but what about channel or bullhead catfish?
my only other option is ponds and we have a side yard that would be PERFECT for that this summer. we also have a rather large area next to our pool in our backyard where we kept a 24' trampoline that we gave away years ago. the only problem with this area, hence why the trampoline was given away is theres giant redwoods with branches directly hang over. it was impossible to keep the trampoline clean as it had a net. every night i'd wake up and spend 6 hours cleaning it. it didn't bounce very well either. i could put a top over it if that would help. i doubt it though. the side yard is already dug out, with a wire mesh about 2 feet down that was intended as a tortoise enclosure that was never finished.
how much should i expect to pay for a 100 gallon, 300 gallon, or 500 gallon rubbermaid bin, used, or new, preformed? how about with a good pump? filter? is electricity expensive maintaining these things? should i consider solar or energy efficient? whats your opinion?
PS if it was above 300 gallons, i would go with something else, i heard they don't make rubbermaid tubs above 300 gallons and I've looked to back that up.

Your asking alot of questions. I'll just answer some of them. I do have an 300gallon rubbermaid tank that I brought from an old high school friend for $50. I don't really use it till the summer. I put my fish frys (guppy, cichlid, and koi fry) in only. No monster fish. The tanks nice and will work for 1 big monster fish. Right now it has daphnias growing in it. All rubbermaid tanks can not be put in the sun. These tanks warm up like the kiddy pool. Raising WC local fishes will not get you anywhere. Get some really nice fishes. Anyway if you decide to a 300 gal rubbermaid tank. The only good thing is that you will be able move your fishes indoor and outdoor. Just keep in mind that some fishes get way to big for that tank.

Mosquitofish multiply rapidly in my pond. They are survivors, lol. Mine live out side all year long. We always have ice over the pond in the winter, and as soon as the weather warms up you can see them searching for food under the surface.

Honestly I wouldnt put catfish in a Rubbermaid that is up stairs unless you know you can fit it and carry it up stairs and most importantly have a method to make sure water doesn't splash out on the floor or worse the floor caving in from the weight and due that the water will make since its a ''pond'' and doesn't have a lid. Have you thought about making a outdoor pond?

No you misunderstand, I'm not putting if upstairs, I wanted a bigger tank upstairs. The floorboards wont support it. THATS why I chose outdoors. This would be in the indoor pond section if I did that.
