I just dont get it. looking at a tank from the top only is like 1500AD goldfish keepers al over again. all fish fear things over head, even if they do surface for food, what is the point of seeing only the top half of a fish?? I know theyre cheap and you coulde have 2 or even 3 in a basment but damn theyre ugly and no matter what you stock, theres not much to look at. I was thinking of cutting out the sides and sealing some acrylic in so as to get a decent side profile but again. I just dont understand the reasoning why someone would take a 300G rubbermaid.

also when you have really large fish a pond is 10x cheaper than a large custom tank.... 400 for a pond or 10k for a tank do the math....

Hmmm… if you don’t get it you should ask… without implementing all your critical speculation…

My Oscars actually look up at me… so I don’t only see their top half, I see them face to face… I also get nice side views… you will only be restricted to a top half view if you hang from the ceiling. Walking on the floor works much better for me…

Every time I walk into the room the Oscars watch me regardless of what I’m doing… they aren’t the least bit frightened even though I am “over head”, although they don‘t appreciate it, I can ‘pet’ 2 of the 3...

Keeping happy fish makes me damn happy… and this is a great way to keep fish happy…

Since the side walls are not transparent the fish in the Rubbermaid are far more “secure” and therefore less skittish…

At the risk of sounding rude… every single thing that you speculated about these tanks is wrong, other than the fact they are inexpensive… not all things work for all people and it’s fine if your not interested in them… but loading a question with speculative opinions that aren’t at all accurate is a nice blend of ignorance and arrogance… good luck with that…

Enjoy your aquariums…

i have also thought at some points that i prefer tanks to ponds,,,but as people state sometimes its soooo much cheaper to have a pond than a tank and obviously you should be able to see the fish and people have filteration on the ponds,,not like elnatural,,,
i do like to see fish from the unatural angle but ponds are what iam going to be looking at when i relocate to colombia

I have both, and the ponds for me are easier to maintain, and the fish seem to get bigger in the ponds. Different view but still nice to look at.

and sometimes we also have fish which we never see till the next water change as they are insanely shy but we still like to keep them, similarly if i can give good living conditions for my fish in a cheap tank, then i can have more tanks and more fish
i don't keep fish only to look at them but it is kinda nice to actually keep fish in healthy conditions and look at them grow huge and beautiful and i like catfish which are much more easy to look at from above
just my opinion

i personally think ponds are quite nice. in the summer sun with the wife and dog and looking at the koi, relaxing at least to me it sounds great anyway.
i suppose they are not for everyone but hey, whatever floats your boat is good for you.
