I bought a 140 gallon, 4x3' rubber tub today. My intention is to house my fish in it for a month or so as I'm moving because of the simple fact that my big glass tank is to heavy to move myself. I can however heft the empty tub around fairly easily until I get into a new house and can afford to set up the main tank again.

The question I have is this- are there any special steps that I have to take in order to prepare the rubber tub for use? Is it safe for the fish; no chemical leaks, etc?

Please let me know.

Thanks

Rob

Never did anything special with mine other then rinse it out. I or others have used this tank a half dozen times without issue. I have the 150g.

I was forced to use a rubbermaid tote (little guy 30 gallons or so) when my 46 sprung a leak...all i did was rinse it out and transferred tank water into it. Ended up my various SA cichlid grow outs stayed in there for 3 months, appears nothing bad happened. I didn't notice any change in the fish in or out of the tote.

I'd clean, sanitize, rinse, then repeat, before putting fish it. Never know where stuff has been. New stuff off the shelf could have been returned by a customer, where it was previously used as a toilet, meth lab equipment, or worse.

In using stuff like that, I like to clean with bleach and water, and then give a real thourough rinse just to make sure. Maybe more for my peace of mind.....jmo

I also have simply rinsed mine in the beginning, and every season since. And find after being dry for a while, a little teflon tape on the threads of the drain plug goes a long way.
